Sustainable Travel
We keep our footprint light, cut plastic where we can, and work with conservancies that protect the wildlife we came to see.

Handcrafted safaris across East Africa's greatest wildernesses. Built by people who've spent a lifetime learning how this land moves you.
Why Safari Plains Africa
We design bespoke safaris across Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, and Zanzibar. Journeys shaped by hands-on knowledge of this land, not a catalogue of destinations. Every itinerary blends wildlife that still runs wild, landscapes that linger in your memory, and cultures we've come to know as our own. A carefully run safari is only the start. The real outcome is a story you'll spend years retelling.

Anyone can put a safari on an itinerary. We put people behind the wheel who know the land beyond the map.
Our silver and gold rated guides are KPSGA certified and salaried year round. They know the roads, seasons, conservancies and wildlife patterns because this is not seasonal work for them. It is their profession.

In their words
We had used two of the big American operators before. This was the first time the person who planned the trip was also the person who answered the phone from the airport.

Our guide found us a leopard with a cub on the second morning and then spent an hour explaining what we were watching rather than radioing every other vehicle.

The quote was itemised down to the conservancy fee. Nothing was added later. After three previous safaris in Africa, that alone was worth the booking.

I am so very grateful to you for everything you did for us on our tour. None of this would have been possible without the knowledge, organization and tireless efforts of Basil Mwakulomba, and would have been far less enjoyable without his kind hearted and joyful personality.

What can you say about the perfect trip? From the cool, lush forest of Mount Kenya to the hauntingly stark and brutally hot plains of Samburu; a hot air balloon ride over the Masai Mara, concluding with a bumpy landing and a champagne breakfast on the savanna; a black rhino emerging from the undergrowth to spend a good ten minutes regarding you uncertainly; slamming on the brakes as a leopard saunters across the path. None of this would have been possible without the knowledge, organization and tireless efforts of Basil Mwakulomba. Words alone are inadequate. These photographs are a record of a journey in Kenya from January 6 to 18, 2017.
